Neglecting maintenance of your septic system can eventually lead to system failures!
A few dollars spent on proper cleaning and maintenance is much less expensive than system repairs or a new system installation.

Maintenance Tips
Everyday DOs and DON'Ts:
Taking Care of Your
Septic System |
|
| Always Do this: |
-
DO conserve water. Large amounts of water can overload the system and flush solids out of the tank and into the absorption field.
-
DO repair leaking faucets and toilets.
-
DO use moderate amounts of white toilet paper. Some dyes used for toilet tissue are difficult for bacteria to break down.
-
DO use no-phosphate laundry detergents. Liquid detergents are recommended.
-
DO restrict garbage disposal use.
-
DO divert down-spouts and surface water away from your absorption area.
-
DO plant good vegetation over the absorption area. Grass is recommended and should be mowed regularly to encourage growth.
-
DO have your septic tank pumped regularly - We recommend every two(2) to three(3) years, or as needed, depending on the size of the tank and the size of the household. This will help protect the absorption area.
|
| Never Do This: |
-
Do NOT flush facial tissues, paper-towels, cigarette butts, chemicals, gauze bandages, kitty litter, prescription or over-the-counter medications, disposable diapers, sanitary napkins, tampons, condoms or any other personal hygiene products down the toilet.
-
Do NOT flush or pour down the drain(s) any grease, fat, pesticides, paints, varnishes, thinners, waste oils or coffee grounds.
-
Do NOT let wash water from latex paint on rollers and brushes go down the drain and into the septic system.
-
Do NOT drive heavy vehicles or disturb and compact the soil over the septic system. Nothing heavier than a riding mower should be driven over any part of the septic system.
-
Do NOT allow the septic tank to be pumped via the inspection pipes. Proper cleaning should always be done through the main access lid of the tank.
